The Owl & Cat Theatre and Studio Welder present our 6 month part-time class for serious actors. We are searching for artists who believe in storytelling, actors who are brave and bold. This will be our second graduating class, and we are excited to see what we can develop together, with our local playwrights and The Owl and Cat Theatre’s support of the show we will develop. The professional program is designed to help you create your own method and style and we will share all of the knowledge we have for you to exceed every mentor and then some. The professional program is designed to help you find your own method and style and we will share all of the knowledge we have for you to exceed every mentor and then some.

We work closely with our students as specialist guides, mentors, coaches and allies. We want you to understand what you are doing, why you are doing it and then to succeed. Over 6 months you will be given access to 6 mentors. A course designed by actors for actors, a sharing of information, contacts and opportunities.

As the course progresses, so too will your participation in terms of commitment, outside research, study time, rehearsals and performances. Local and international esteemed playwrights will write a script specifically for you and a character for you, previous classes have presented their work as a part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival and the Owl and Cat theater’s season of plays. As you approach the final industry intensive month, you will be expected to present yourself as a working and trained actor to industry professionals and think critically in response to your performance and reviews. Post class support will be available and you will forever become a part of the Owl and Cat Theatre / Studio Welder family.

Select students are considered for Scholarship exchange with our partner school based in New York City – the Barrow Group.

The acting classes at the Owl & Cat have taught me that theatre is much more than acting in front of an audience.

"Provocative theatre at its best. What I love about Owl & Cat Theatre productions is their audacity to present works that confront the complexities of human interaction and go deeper."

Jo Malone - Weekend Notes

"I found the various techniques that were taught in the class helped me to not only find my character, by clearly identifying how I moved and spoke as this person, but also enabled me to establish my physical environment, so that I wasn’t “acting on a stage” but I was “living moment to moment in my environment”

David M

"My love of Laban was rekindled in class!! Thank you!"
